Documentary Sector of 6th Beijing International Film Festival

Established in 2011, the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) is now the largest international Film Festival in China. In 2014, the Documentary Sector was launched as an independent Sector of BJIFF and was organized by Beijing International Documentary Center (BIDC).

BJIFF DOC comprises five key segments: awards; screening; forums; markets; and salons.

Within the 2016 Documentary Sector, 1467 works from 82 countries or regions have registered. 1352 of the registered films are foreign works while 115 are from China (including Sino-foreign co-productions). Many submission works hold various international film awards of Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Torento, Sundance, Oscars, Cinéma du Réel, HotDocs, IDFA, etc.

Following three selection rounds, nominations have been identified, accounced to public and the jury will make its final decisions for awards.

The BJIFF DOC Awards includes “Best Feature Documentary”, “Best Series Documentary”, “Best Sino-foreign Co-production”, “Best Chinese Subject Short Documentary”, and “Special Award by the Board (Lifestyle & Reality). The Documentary Sector will award certificates to all nominations and award-winning films.
